A while back I had broken the blade of my keychain swiss army knife cutting open a heavy cardboard carton. Though it is guaranteed, I had been thinking about a replacement and had settled on a leatherman squirt E4 which I have been carrying for a couple of weeks now. The way it opens and the shape of the blade are unfamiliar to me but I have been getting to know them. Today I was opening one of those packages hermetically sealed in clear, heavy plastic and pulled out the blade on my new leatherman to cut it open. In my unfamiliarity I held it backwards the blade closed on my right index finger, cutting it open instead. So this evening, thirteen stitches later, I am typing with my right hand splinted in a permanent point (or "L" for Loser). There was no permanent damage and I am on twice daily doses of antibiotics and humility as I learn temporary nine-finger touch typing.
